About Us

Hello! We are Bio TMT, a student group at UCI focused on improving cardiovascular health outcomes. Our senior design project, in collaboration with Edwards Lifesciences, focuses on the development of a novel introducer sheath system for transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR). The primary goal is to enhance vascular access during TTVR procedures in high risk patients by reducing bleeding risks and improving deliverability. For information about our team, please navigate to the Our Team tab above!

What is TTVR?

TTVR is a rapidly emerging alternative to traditional open-heart tricuspid valve surgery, which carries a high operative risk. Open-heart tricuspid valve procedures are associated with a high mortality rate of 8%+ and are often not feasible in older or comorbid patients. Recent medical clinical trials show that minimally invasive TTVR has significantly lower procedural mortality (~1–3%), shorter hospital stays, and reduced postoperative complications. That is why it is vital to make valve deliverability and sheath design as refined as possible. Our group's mission statement and the purpose of this project is to further decrease mortality rates and increase the efficiency of TTVR procedures. For further information about TTVR, please navigate to the TTVR tab above.

Product Explanation

Our mission is to improve TTVR in order to reduce long-term mortality rates. In order to accomplish this, we have constructed a new Transcatheter Venous Access Sheath and Handle, in order to better control catheter entrance and navigation through the cardiac system. Our device will minimize access site damage and bleeding, allowing for smoother valve replacement operations. For further information about our project, navigate to the Project tab above.

Market Strategy and Competitor Analysis

Developed in association with Edwards Lifesciences, our product is slated for internal development and release rather than entreprenureal launch. Therefore, our market strategy is highly dependent on factors internal to Edwards Lifesciences. However, if you would like to see how our products stacks up against those of our competitors, please head to the Competitor Analysis tab above.
